Continuing the tradition of celebrating the artistic and technical brilliance in Hindi Cinema, the 67th Wolf777news Filmfare Awards 2022 with Government of Maharashtra, Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav was a roaring success. Held on August 30 at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai. As always, this mega extravaganza saw Bollywood stars gracing the red carpet, entertaining the crowd, and being felicitated for their work across Popular, Critics’, and Technical award categories.

The cheers of the cast and crew of Shershaah pierced the air as the biographical war drama received the Best Film Award. Emotions ran high when Karan Johar invited the martyred Captain Vikram Batra’s brother, Vishal Batra, on the stage and thanked him and the family for their support for the film. It wasn’t too long before director Vishnuvardhan was invited again to receive his Best Director Award by Popular Choice for Shershaah. In the closely contested Best Actor (Male) category, Ranveer Singh came out as the winner for his amazing performance as Kapil Dev in the sports biopic 83. The award for the Best Actor (Female) went to Kriti Sanon for her role in Mimi. This year, the Lifetime Achievement Award was bestowed upon Bollywood’s own showman Subhash Ghai and was presented by the Honourable Deputy Chief Minister, Government of Maharashtra Shri. Devendra Fadnavis, making the moment even more special. Apart from awardees based on popularity, the Critcis’ awardees were chosen by an eminent jury. Sardar Udham was awarded as the Best Film under Critics’ Choice whereas Vicky Kaushal and Vidya Balan bagged the prestigious Black Lady as Best Actors (Male and Female) for their mind-blowing performances in Sardar Udham and Sherni respectively.
The event began with host Ranveer Singh’s exuberant entry accompanied by a posse of drummers and soldiers in a chariot. He mesmerised the audience present with his performances on the song ‘Malhari’ and ushered in the Ganesh Utsav festivities early with ‘Deva Shree Ganesha’, before ending his act with unfurling the National Flag to commemorate India’s 75th Independence Day. The Honourable Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, graced the occasion and lit the ceremonial lamp with his wife Amruta Fadnavis, Vineet Jain (Managing Director of The Times Group), and Sudhir Mungatiwar (Minister for Forests, Cultural Affairs, Fisheries, Government of Maharashtra).
This year’s Filmfare was special because the event happened LIVE in front of a cheering audience after two years. Bollywood fans got the much sought-after opportunity to be a part of this glittery night in person. Adding to the extravaganza was the powerhouse of talent Ranveer Singh, who co-hosted the eventful evening with his partner-in-crime, eminent actor Arjun Kapoor. Starting off by breaking into a dance on their film Gunday’s hit song Tune Maari Entriyaan, the hilarious duos’ bromance and antics left the audience in splits. Co-host Maniesh Paul built on the atmosphere with his humorous quizzes and skits with the stars, further leaving the audience in splits.
Bollywood stars Vicky Kaushal, Varun Dhawan, Disha Patani, and Kiara Advani were the top entertainers of the night. Disha’s dance moves to her hits including Slow Motion, Malang, and Mundiyan had the viewers hooked. Varun celebrated his 10 years in Bollywood with his energetic performances on a compilation of hit tracks from his movies. The crowd was left in awe as Vicky Kaushal descended amidst the crowd like an angel, but it wasn’t too long before he got them to dance with him. Kiara dazzled the stage with her groovy performance on her latest hits like ‘Rangi Saari’ and ‘The Punjaban Song’. Apart from these eye-catching presentations by Bollywood’s who’s who, there were a lot more surprises.
