FIR for wrong side driving or bike riding in Mumbai

Sanjay Pandey, the newly appointed Commissioner of Police (CP) has initiated a bigger step towards road safety in Mumbai. The Commissioner has ordered police to file FIRs against offenders under Sections 279 (rash driving/riding) and 336 (endangering human life and safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code.


This initiative comes into effect from today itself with bikers already starting to face the heat. The act for which there would have been just a fine earlier is now considered a complete serious offence.

Till today evening 36 such cases has been registered with majority of the wrong doers being shocked about the repriman. Mumbai being one of the overcrowded city in the world needs better road safety for its citizens.

The FIR can outcome up to 6 months in jail and a fine of up to Rs 1,000, if offence proven in court under Sec 279 and up to 3 months in jail and a fine of up to Rs 1,000, if offence proven in court under Sec 336.


However this is a bailable offence.
