Though the overall COVID-19 cases have remained very low but the numbers are in an upward trend first time ever since this January.

India recorded 6610 fresh cases for the week ending on Apr 17, 2022. The spike in infection has been witnessed in Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.

Although around 7,010 cases were reported in the previous week, Kerala's cases have been deducted from the total for the purpose of comparison since the state has stopped issuing Covid data from the current week. Kerala had reported 2,185 cases last week (April 4-10), nearly a third of the national total.

In Haryana, weekly cases surged to 1,119, up 118% from the previous week's count of 514. Uttar Pradesh reported a 141% spike in numbers, with 540 cases this week as opposed to 224 in the last. In both states, a majority of the new cases were being reported from NCR cities adjoining Delhi, such as Gurgaon, Noida and Ghaziabad.
