Appointed on Feb 19, 2022 as new police Commissioner of Mumbai, the 1986 batch IPS officer Sanjay Pandey has been assiduous in making ‘Aamchi Mumbai‘ a more better place.

On Mar 07, 2022 he ordered police to file FIRs against wrong side driving in Mumbai under Sections 279 (rash driving/riding) and 336 (endangering human life and safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code. From then till now Mumbai Police has registered over 2800 FIRs against motorists for driving on the wrong side and further removed over 4,600 abandoned vehicles from roads.

After the act of delivering better road safety the 59 year old Commissioner today (Mar 31, 2022) pledged on Twitter to eradicate the narcotic element from Mumbai.

“Drugs are a major concern. We have been working in background. Now on will reveal daily and your inputs / information is welcome to our work towards #narcoticsfree mumbai. Tall order but we shall ….” stated the commissioner on Twitter.

In 2019 Maharashtra registered 14158 cases or incidents under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act amounting to 19.4% of the total cases in the country. Over 85% of the cases in the top five cities were for personal consumption.

In the past few years India has witnessed heavy consumption of natural plant-based drugs such as cannabis, coca, opium, etc.; and synthetic drugs (processed chemically) such as ecstasy, diazepam, methaqualone, etc.

Inspired by whosoever the use of this substance needs to be curbed at the earliest, before the same is understood as a fashion by the next generation.

We shall keep you posted about his actions and the outcome as it happens.
