Sanjay Pandey Retires As Mumbai Police Commissioner, Senior Officer Vivek Phansalkar takes over

The most spectacular cameo and the four month eventful tenure of the Sanjay Pandey as the Mumbai Police Commissioner sees a farewell today with his retirement.


Senior IPS officer Vivek Phansalkar has been appointed as the new Mumbai police commissioner.


A 1989-batch IPS officer, Vivek Phansalkar was serving as the DG and MD of the Police Housing and Welfare Corporation, before his appointment as the Mumbai police commissioner.


He has succeed incumbent commissioner of police Sanjay Pandey who retired on Thursday.

Vivek Phansalkar had also served Maharashtra Police in various key capacities including Thane commissioner of police and Maharashtra Anti Terrorism Squad chief.


Mr. Sanjay Pandey was appointed as the commissioner on February 19. He was known for his interactions with the media. His drive #removekhatra to safeguard the Mumbai citizens as a long waited performance of class.


On Thursday evening he expressed his gratitude to all his colleagues as well as citizens in his farewell note.


The social media favourite top cop stated that he would continue his journey on social media as there is still a lot to be done, “I’ll keep the Lives going, that’s for sure. Maybe start my own YouTube channel. There are a lot of subjects connected to this city that I feel deeply about,” he said.
