Sanjay Raut's Alibaug plot and one flat in Dadar, Mumbai has been attached by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) today in connection with his alleged involvement in the money laundering probe linked to a Rs 1,034 crore worth land scam related to the re-development of the Patra Chawl in Mumbai.
ED has issued the provisional attachment under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) to freeze the plots and the flat.
The attached assets amount to Rs 11.15 crore, in form of land held by Pravin Raut, ex-director of Guru Ashish Construction Pvt Ltd, a Dadar flat of Varsha Raut, wife of Sanjay Raut and Alibaug plots jointly held by Varsha Raut and Swapna Patkar, wife of Sujit Patkar.
Pravin Raut was arrested earlier in Feb this year and a chargesheet was filed. Varsha Raut, wife of Sanjay Raut was last year questioned by ED in connection with another money laundering case linked to the PMC Bank fraud case and for her purported links with Pravin Raut's wife Madhuri.
This will come as a big blow to the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government which already has two of its senior leaders - Anil Deshmukh and Nawab Malik - subject to investigations.
Deshmukh had to resign from the state Home Minister post after his alleged involvement in a corruption case while Nawab Malik remains in judicial custody following allegations of money laundering.
Later today, NCP chief Sharad Pawar has invited Maharashtra's MLAs for a dinner tonight, as the leaders from all the parties are here for a training program in Parliament. Congress, Shiv Sena and NCP leaders will be attending the meeting.
