The United Nations will mark World Food Safety Day next Tuesday. This year, the theme is “Safer food, better health.” Safe food is essential to human health and well-being and is one of the most critical guarantors for good health. The day will draw attention and mobilize action to prevent, detect and manage foodborne risks and improve human health.
The day will be marked with a virtual event from 14:00-15:00 CEST with video messages from WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus and Director-General of Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Dr Qu Dongyu. An interactive session on the need to transform food systems to deliver better health will follow with WHO Assistant Director-General Naoko Yamamoto and Director of the FAO Liaison Office with the UN in Geneva Dominique Burgeon delving into this year’s theme for World Food Safety Day.
